With penetrating intensity, fresh apple and pineapple deliver tangy brightness both to the nose and to a palate where a glaze of quince jelly and an oily abundance of glycerol reflect advanced ripeness and incipient botrytization. Brightness and penetration persist through a buoyant, lusciously fruited finish that permits satisfying glimpses of wet stone and invigoratingly gingery, zesty nuances. “The fact that Goldgrube always ripens much later than Steffensberg contributes to the [former’s] complexity,” opined Vollenweider. The 2015 Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Spätlese has a deep, clear and flinty/herbal, beautifully fine but also super ripe and aromatic bouquet. Round and lush on the palate, this is a generous and well balanced Spätlese with a smooth and piquant mouthfeel, remarkable elegance and great finesse. The finish is stimulatingly salty and fresh.
