This is the family’s historic vineyard cru, located in Castiglione Falletto at the border with Monforte d’Alba, and the Odderos have been making wine from this site since 1982. This is a thin little snake of vineyard land that shows unique and different characteristics in its wines. In the 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione, those start with a strong mineral, almost salty element you taste right at the get-go. This wine is robust and tight in the mouth and should relax over the next two or three years. It’s another wonderful effort from Oddero.
Anticipated maturity: 2021-2040
The 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is bright, perfumed and super-expressive, with that striking combination of aromatic intensity and structure that is such a signature of this site, especially here. Rose petal, chalk, mint and red berry fruit add to an impression of total finesse and grace. Bright, saline notes pulse through the wonderfully expressive finish in another Barolo that has so much to say.
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2040
