2015 Moccagatta, Barbaresco, Cole 1x750ml

The 2015 Barbaresco Cole is a potent wine. A rush of black cherry, lavender, spice, new leather, macerated cherry and menthol hits the palate as this plush, explosive Barbaresco shows off its personality. Elevated ripeness and copious new oak give the wine a decidedly exotic feel. For my palate, the 2015 Cole is pushed a bit too far, as varietal and site characteristics are somewhat blurred by the wine’s flamboyant style. There is no shortage of intensity or breadth, that much is obvious. [Antonio Galloni, 19/10/2018]

"The 2015 Barbaresco Cole shows extra ripeness, structure and fruit extraction. This is a warm-vintage Nebbiolo, and the darkness and intensity of the fruit leaves little doubt about this fact. There is some astringent tightness-this is a quality you find across the Moccagatta line-but this vintage is better suited to medium-term consumption. Only 3,000 bottles were made."
