Very deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon (containing splashes of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc) opens with expressive crushed plums, mulberries and cassis with touches of dark chocolate, baking spice and black soil. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the mouth with approachable, spicy black fruit, framed by grainy tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long with a pleasant herbal lift. 5,899 cases were made. The 2015 Insignia is a wine of brute power and intensity, with huge fruit to match its opulent, flamboyant personality. Unctuous and racy, the 2015 is also raw and not fully put together at this stage. As in 2014, the quality of the Merlot was not high enough to warrant inclusion in the final blend.
