The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru shows a little stem addition on the fresh, detailed nose, which is earthier than those of its appellation peers and acquires graphite and tobacco scents with aeration. The palate is well-balanced, displaying good backbone and fine acidity, but tight and backward at the moment, and missing a little charm. I am sure that will evolve with continued bottle age, so cellar this for another 5 to 7 years. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
Anticipated maturity: 2022-2045
"The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes is quite youthfully reserved, unfurling with aeration to deliver notes of sweet cherries, dried flowers, peonies and sweet spices. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, ample and concentrated, with a lavishly textural attack, tangy acids and a satiny chassis of tannin that clamps down on the finish. As is the rule with Barthod’s wines, it will require time, but at maturity it will be superb."
