Bright red-ruby. Deep aromas of blackberry, licorice and mocha lifted by a violet topnote. Thick, silky and powerful, with the black fruit and violet flavors complicated by saline minerality. Quite brawny for Clos Saint-Denis but leavened by harmonious acidity. Finishes with terrific rising black fruit persistence, the firm tannins spreading out to saturate the entire palate. The crop level here was a modest 27 hectoliters per hectare, according to Magnien. [Stephen Tanzer, 03/01/2016]
