The 2013 Bienvenue Batard Montrachet Grand Cru has a clean bouquet, touches of undergrowth here, perhaps not quite as comely as the 2014 may turn out. The palate is nicely balanced with hints of bitter lemon, striking acidity but showing composure and class on the finish that appears to have retained some of that nascent richness that it showed in barrel.
Anticipated maturity: 2017-2032
(the grand crus were bottled in mid-April): High-pitched aromas of pear, lime, crushed stone and lavender. Intensely flavored but airy and light on its feet, with firm limey acidity (4.4 grams per liter) cutting the wine’s flesh. Finishes tight and long, with rising floral perfume. Again, this is high-pitched and refined for the vintage.
Anticipated maturity: 2022-2030
