Tasting Notes

Vinous 91

The 2011 Pichon-Baron is a vintage that I never tasted in bottle. It has a conservative, earthy, tarry bouquet with pencil box aromas that evolve with aeration, although it never quite clicks into fifth gear. The fresh, vibrant palate is well balanced with stringy tannin and a strict, linear, graphite-tinged finish. It perhaps just lacks the flair and precision of Pichon-Barons from the top drawer. You might describe the 2011 as a serviceable vintage for medium-term consumption. Tasted at the Pichon-Baron vertical at the château. [Neal Martin, 30/01/2019]

Anticipated maturity: 2019-2035

Robert Parker 91

Its bigger, more famous sibling, the 2011 Pichon Longueville Baron exhibits a dense ruby/purple color, an opulent mouthfeel for a 2011, silky tannins and no hard edges. Medium-bodied and well-endowed, it is a major success in this vintage. It should hit its stride in 3-4 years and last for 15+. [30/04/2014]
