Soft wood sets off overtly ripe yet cool aromas of cassis, plum and warm earth where the latter element also infuses the dense and exceptionally rich medium-bodied flavors that possess an abundance of mouth coating sap on the balanced finish. Despite the suave mid-palate, this is actually a relatively robust and powerful effort and if not quite as muscular as the Vaucrains, it’s not far off. All of that duly noted, this comes across as presently better balanced simply because the tannins are so-well integrated. Note too that this is going to require plenty of patience to resolve the very firm structure. In sum, this is a knockout. [Allen Meadows, 01/10/2012]
