Tasting Notes

Robert Parker 91

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Talbot opens with maturing scents of fruitcake, Chinese five spice and cigar box plus hints of dried mint, pencil lead and chargrill. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is pleasantly spicy, with a light grip of chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing savory. [Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 21/02/2020]

Anticipated maturity: 2020-2033

Vinous 93

The 2010 Talbot was picked from 27 September until 21 October with some of the Merlots reaching 15 alcohol. I have tasted this three or four times before and on the basis of this showing, perhaps I have under-rated this wine in the past. It has a very appealing bouquet with blackberry, wild hedgerow, crushed strawberry, cedar and graphite aromas that seem more intense than previous bottles. The palate feels rounded and supple with layers of tobacco and 5-spice infused black fruit, fanning out to a voluminous and quite concentrated finish. This is far better than I expected and it should be cellared for another five or six years. Tasted at the centenary Chateau Talbot vertical at the property. [Neal Martin, 15/10/2019]

Anticipated maturity: 2023-2048
