Tasting Notes

Robert Parker 90

Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. The Vieux Chateau Mazerat has a rather odd bouquet: high-toned at first, and then calming down with notes of black cherries and seashells. There is a maritime element here one that becomes more pronounced with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry. There is plenty of sappy dark cherry fruit and plum, crisp acidity and good race and harmony on the finish. The oak is nicely integrated here and the persistency is impressive. Tasted January 2013. [Neal Martin, 01/01/2013]

Vinous 91

Bright ruby-red. Black cherry, mulberry, cocoa powder and smoky oak on the superripe nose. Dense, sweet and fat with fruit; in a slightly chunky style but lifted by a limestone quality. Very chewy, solidly built wine with a lightly saline, firmly tannic finish. This fruit bomb should offer considerable early appeal. [Stephen Tanzer, 01/07/2012]
