The 2009 Poujeaux has a high-toned bouquet with more blue fruit than its peers. Perhaps it was picked a day or two tardy given the lack of definition compared to others. The palate is medium-bodied with a chewy opening, plenty of tarry black fruit but it feels over-extracted on the finish. This has shown well in the past but this bottle seems out of sorts. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 2009 Bordeaux tasting.
The 2009 Poujeaux has a medium to deep garnet color and delivers expressive blackberry preserves, prunes, sauteed herbs and fragrant earth notes with hints of tobacco and fallen leaves. Medium-bodied with refreshing acidity and a chewy texture supporting the earthy flavors in the mouth, it finishes on a stewed tea note. Drinking well right now!
