Vinous 95+

Light gold color. Strikingly complex, sexy bouquet of pear, floral honey, sweet butter, anise, toasted grain and smoky minerals; reminds me of a top-notch Meursault. Very rich, with creamy orchard fruit flavors supported by a firm underpinning of minerals. The anise note gains power on the finish, which strongly echoes the honey, anise and mineral qualities. You could enjoy this immensely right now but I’d defer opening mine for at least another decade or more. Anything else would be vinfanticide. [Josh Raynolds, 01/01/2009]

Absolutely prodigious, with both blockbuster richness and an inherent weightlessness and elegance that shows how successful the vintage was for whites, the 2006 Hermitage Blanc offers incredible minerality as well as notes of white currants, buttered stone fruits and hints of honeycomb in a rich, layered, thrillingly pure style. It’s drinking gorgeously today, but certainly has two decades of life remaining. This might be a dessert island white for me and count yourself lucky if you have a few bottles of this elixir in the cellar. [28/09/2017]
