Tasting Notes

Robert Parker 93

The 2006 Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre from Domaine Raveneau is maturing very nicely. The nose is strict and correct at first, gradually opening up and offering tantalizing glimpses of fennel and even a faint scent of lobster bisque. The palate is precise and linear on the entry, and then fans out with careless abandon, slightly honeyed towards the finish that perhaps shaves away some of the tension it would have otherwise possessed. But it remains a wonderful Chablis that has ten or 20 years ahead. [Neal Martin, 08/11/2015]

Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030

Vinous 93+

Bright yellow with a green tinge. Cool aromas of crushed stone, citrus peel and white flowers. Dense, sweet and minerally, but quite youthfully closed and strict today, showing none of the honeyed character of the 2006 vintage. In fact, this broad, rich wine boasts terrific verve and finishes with palate-staining citrus and stone flavors. This is 13% natural alcohol with four grams per liter of acidity. It will be fascinating to compare this and the more austere 2005 a decade or so down the road. [Stephen Tanzer, 01/07/2008]
