The 2005 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Gaudichots has a sweet ripe raspberry bouquet with touches of cumin and iris, although it is a little too high-toned for my own liking and seems blowsy compared directly against Prieure-Roch’s Clos Goillotte ’05. The palate is slightly chewy on the entry. This is a bold and quite firm 2005, backward, but missing some finesse towards the spicy finish. I was hoping for more given the vintage. Drink 2016-2026.
Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026
Dark red. Pure, vibrant nose offers blueberry, blackberry, espresso, violet and menthol. Very intense but not at all overly sweet, with a firm acid spine and pronounced minerality currently dominating the dark fruit flavors. This impressively mouthcoating, dense-but-juicy wine is solidly structured but not at all hard.
