A deep, dense wine, the 2005 Solaia is still in its infant stage. The cool vintage produced slow-maturing wines. Nowhere is that more evident than in Solaia, a wine that retains exceptional freshness. Graphite, plum, smoke, licorice and menthol meld into the dark, brooding finish. In 2005, Solaia is a bit more refined than Tignanello, but both wines are impressive.
Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030
The 2005 Solaia is a fresh, primary wine loaded with the essence of super-ripe blueberries, blackberries and sweet toasted oak, all laced with an attractive inner perfume. While the 2005 doesn’t quite match the very finest versions, it is a remarkable effort in this tricky vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2023.
