The 2004 Barolo Riserva 10 Anni Fossati/Case Nere is one of the real surprises in this tasting, as it is more refined than I remembered it. Lifted, expressive aromatics, silky texture and mid-weight structure are some of the signatures. The Fossati/Case Nere isn’t one of the biggest or most powerful Barolos in the range, but it is among the most polished. This wine has really come together nicely since I first tasted it some years ago. In my view, Fossati and Case Nere don’t have the same pedigree as some of the other sites Voerzio works with, which makes this showing all the more impressive.
Anticipated maturity: 2015-2024
