Full red-ruby color. Pure, cooler aromas of cassis, violet, licorice and menthol. Densely packed and spicy; less silky and expressive today than the Romanee-Saint-Vivant but also more focused and pure, with more obvious energy. Gripping, sappy flavors of black cherry and licorice. Finishes with superb palate-coating length. Un monsieur ," Hudelot volunteers, suggesting that the Romanee-Saint-Vivant is a more feminine style of grand cru. "This wine will be easy to taste young and will stay young for a long time," he added, comparing this 2003 to the 1978 version in this respect.
