Excellent dark red. Very expressive, open-knit aromas of raspberry, plum, smoked meat, leather and truffley underbrush, plus suggestions of prune and crystallized fruits. Plush and round in the mouth; seems as evolved as the nose but boasts inviting decadent sweetness. The serious tannins show a slight dry edge. Etienne Grivot, who finds a bit of finishing bitterness, told me that this wine was a bit more roughly handled when it was de-cuved; today he uses a new device. This is ready to go but should continue to give pleasure for several years based on its ripeness and full tannins.
Anticipated maturity: 2016-2023
From a parcel in the "Cruots" sector of its vineyard, the 2002 Echezeaux bursts forth with toasty blackberry and cassis aromas. Its awesomely-textured character reveals sensual, oily layers of red cherries, candied raspberries, and spices that linger in its sultry, seductive, and prolonged finish. Drink this concentrated beauty between 2007 and 2018.
Anticipated maturity: 2007-2018
