(nearly 100% grenache) Good red color. Aromas of creamy raspberry, smoke, pepper and dried flowers. Denser and chewier than the basic cuvee, but also with more peppery verve. Very ripe Chateauneuf, finishing with toothcoating, slightly dry tannins.
Now well past its peak drinking window, the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Pere is pale and brick in hue. The fruit has largely left the building, leaving behind some vestiges of dried fruit, leather and some drying tannins on the finish.
Anticipated maturity: 2006-2012
