Medium red. Rather mute nose hints at cherry and dried flowers; faint whiff of old wood. Fat and chewy in the mouth, with lovely flavor intensity and strong vinosity. The classic 1996 Barolo is potentially outstanding. Its dark ruby color is accompanied by a smoky, black cherry-scented nose with roasted herb, nuts, and mineral nuances.
