1990 Chateau de Beaucastel Rouge, Chateauneuf-du-Pape 1x750ml

It has been several years since I tasted this Beaucastel, and it appears to be entering its graceful decline. Here is has a lovely mulchy, mushroom, black truffle bouquet with dried orange peel, oxtail and dried blood aromas. It is well defined and takes you straight to the southern Rhone. The palate is reticent but opens with coaxing to offer a mellow, animally Chateauneuf that does not quite have the cohesion or brio that it displayed before. Drink now-2017. Tasted January 2017.
