An unmistakable sweaty saddle, leathery nose with just a touch of burnt rubber. Good definition. Medium-bodied palate, moderate acidity, off-dry with notes of leather, sous-bois, a touch of garrigues and just enough brett to complement the wine. Mellowing nicely after a couple of decades, this is not an intellectual Beaucastel, but it has a bucolic charm. The ’81 is much better, but this still offers pleasure. Drink now.
