The 1982 l Eglise-Clinet predates Durantou s arrival by a year and as such it is only a modest success. This comes from the second of two bottles I acquired many years ago for very little money. Bell pepper and remnants of brambly red fruit on the nose that has clearly lost a lot of its initial vigor. The palate is balanced, quite fleshy but very simple with a kind of half-hearted finish. Denis would have made a far better 1982, but his tenure was a year away. Tasting note taken from the Pomerol book by Neal Martin.
Anticipated maturity: 2019-2024
Somewhat past its peak of maturity, the 1982 L’Eglise Clinet reveals plenty of amber at the edge as well as a loosely knit style without the superb concentration found in just about every top vintage from the mid-nineties through 2008. It offers sweet mulberry and kirsch notes along with hints of earth, underbrush, and caramel. Drink it up. Release price: ($150.00/case)
