Napa's Global Icon
Hello Collectors,
If you were to create a Venn diagram of Napa wineries that have 40 harvests under their belts and were also global icons, then the slim overlap would barely cover a handful of producers. Undeniably in that elite pack would be Opus One, a disrupter of norms and changer of paradigms since its very first vintage. All these years later, they’re continuing to release some of the greatest vintages in the estate’s storied history, and the 2019 appears to be a new high-water mark.
When Opus One released its maiden vintage, the first case was actually auctioned off, shattering every sales record at the time. The hype was enormous, thanks to the partnership between Napa Valley pioneer Robert Mondavi and Bordeaux magnate Philippe de Rothschild, two of wine’s most recognized faces worldwide. Their venture sparked countless intercontinental winery collaborations and partnerships, but Opus One is the most enduring of them all. It is sold around the world through the vaunted Bordeaux négociant system—the first American wine to be traded this way—joined by other powerhouse bottlings like Masseto and Solaia.
The 2019 harvest was the 41st for Opus One and, even following some legendary vintages, is one of their all-time greatest releases. Earning whopping scores from both Vinous and Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate, 22-year Opus winemaker Michael Silacci has clearly honed in on exactly how to maximize the quality of any given vintage. We’re thrilled to offer this wine today, and not only at our usual great pricing (well below average), but also in ample quantity. For those who are regular Opus One collectors, this is a must-have vintage, absolutely worth buying deep on. But whether you’re considering a bottle or a case, you don’t want to miss this amazing opportunity to take home a global icon from a top year.
