More than a decade ago, a rise occurred among Nebbiolo-based wines outside of the classic regions of Barolo and Barbaresco. A torrid ascent began with the wines of the Alto Piemonte, but sadly, the prices of those wines took off almost at the same pace as Barolo and Barbaresco. Another region was lurking in the shadows, producing glorious wines that needed to be tasted, and they surpassed expectations.

The Lombardy region of Italy should be much more highly regarded than it is. It arguably produces Italy’s best sparkling wines in the Franciacorta region and is also home to Valtellina, where they produce glorious, ethereal Nebbiolo that can achieve greatness often thought to be isolated in Piedmont. For over 150 years, one family has made incredible strides in helping shine a brighter light on the subzone, all while pushing the quality envelope to the maximum. Ar. Pe. Pe. made its last round of major changes 20 years ago, and ever since then, they have turned heads and changed perspectives with each passing year.

Today, we are thrilled to offer a mature set of wines from this great estate. All are unique to their terroir but share one thing in common – they are high elevation vineyards that sit atop their respective hills. The lowest elevation on any of these is 1200 feet above sea level and ranges up over 1450 feet. These are numbers comparable with many of the best in Barolo as well! These wines have all begun hitting their stride, with resolved tannins and outstanding texture and mouthfeel that only mature Nebbiolo can achieve! In magnum format, these are incredible bottles to share with friends and family, yet they come at a price tag well below what a comparable magnum of Barolo would cost!
