California has long been a state of pioneers and trailblazers when it comes to grape growing. Robert Mondavi may not have been the first in Napa Valley, but his vision and belief in the region’s potential helped turn it into one of the world’s most renowned wine destinations. A similar story can be told of Justin Smith of Saxum, whose innovation in Paso Robles has made Saxum the crown jewel of the region. Others may have come before or followed after, but his tireless dedication helped put Paso Robles firmly on the map, and more than 25 years later, he’s still going strong.

Growing up in a family that owned exceptionally well-planted vineyards, Justin found his calling early and quickly gained acclaim with Saxum. Within his first five years, he earned his first 100-point score, and that same wine was named Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year. For years, the mailing list was impossible to crack, with demand far outpacing supply. Today, we’re fortunate to have an extensive collection of these remarkable wines available.

With a focus on organic practices, outstanding single vineyards, and many parcels of old vines, Saxum now produces up to a dozen cuvées each vintage. Even so, the wines remain highly allocated and rarely stay in stock for long. Today’s offer is no exception. Quantities are limited, and we expect these to disappear quickly.
