Only Superlatives

For those who may recall, Robert Parker was famous for using the word “superlative” when describing new releases he believed would become future benchmark wines. As I sit and write this, it’s nice to reflect on so many of those wines when they were young, along with the glowing praise critics showered upon them. Time has proven many of those predictions correct, as these wines have gone on to become global icons. Today, we focus on the very best.

There are 13 triple-digit-rated wines in today’s offer, with some starting as low as $240 per bottle. Beyond the scores, we are loaded with some of the greatest vintages imaginable. Whether it’s 2000 or 2005 Bordeaux from Right Bank superstars like Ausone, L’Eglise-Clinet, and Lafleur, there is plenty to love. We also have some gorgeous, fully mature Latour. Napa won’t let Bordeaux steal the spotlight, though, as Cabernet royalty such as Colgin, MacDonald, Scarecrow, and Screaming Eagle all bring their best today.

Burgundy shines just as brightly, with Comtes Lafon, DRC, Dujac, Leflaive, Ponsot, PYCM, and Rousseau all represented, including several mature offerings. Champagne makes a strong showing as well, led by Cristal Rosé, Krug, and Salon. We also have rare appearances from one-of-one global icons like Grange, Masseto, and Soldera.

Suffice it to say, there is no shortage of quality in today’s offer.
