Return to the Rhône
Hello Collectors,
Just like our Bourbon offers, we learned quickly—and to our surprise—that our Rhône lists are not only popular, but sell out quickly. But even though this sprawling region (France’s second largest) is well loved, it can be hard to assemble a full offer’s worth. We’re thrilled to have amassed another stacked selection of some of the Rhône’s biggest stars, from Côte-Rôtie in the north to Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the south. And if you’re looking for whites and large formats, you’re very much in luck today!
Beginning up north, we open with Allemand, Clape, and Chave. The first boasts two older vintages of Reynard, plus the incredibly rare Sans Soufre, also with some age. Chave’s selection is limited here to the 1999 vintage, but what a stellar year it was. And better yet, we have both a bottle and a magnum. Other superstars of the Northern Rhône include Marcel Juge, who is now retired and somehow still acquiring new fans, and Jamet, whose star continues to rise with each new vintage. Now with his son Pierre leading the team, René Rostaing’s 2019 Côte Blonde is an extraordinary (if young) expression of Côte-Rôtie, yet another testament to René’s winemaking mentorship by his uncle and Rhône legend Marius Gentaz. And Delas caps our trip up North, with a trio of mature wines from the 2005 vintage.
Heading south about two hours by car (I know, gigantic region), you finally reach the Southern Rhône proper, where a new crop of stars is hiding behind the two legends in today’s offer: Rayas and Bonneau. Those two specifically are in phenomenal condition, purchased from retailers and since stored at Domaine. We also have an impressive array of longtime favorites like Beaucastel, Pegau, Clos des Papes, Vieille Julienne, Janasse (going back to 1998!), and Clos Saint Jean (including the 100-pt ’09 Sanctus Sanctorum). And if you’re low on whites, or just preparing for summer’s eventual return, then you’ll want to take a good look through today’s list for some killer deals!
