Starting Off Strong
Hello Collectors,
One of our top priorities for 2023 is to offer you important new releases. Among these will be 2019 Barolos, the most exciting vintage to hit the market since 2016. As we get allocations, we’ll do our best to get them to you in a timely fashion. Today, we’re starting off strong with an incredible offer from one of our absolute favorite producers, who simply nailed the vintage.
On a personal note, I’ve always had a deep love for G.D. Vajra. This goes all the way back to my first tastes of the 1999s, and I’ve been a regular buyer for my own cellar since the legendary 2004 vintage. For me, these wines have always been under the radar, and frankly, wildly underpriced. But recently we’ve seen their prices beginning to creep up. Between that and the stellar quality of these new releases, you can bet the 2019s will find a place in my own cellar. Today, we bring you Vajra’s top 3 Barolos, all of which promise to be stunners in time.
We kick off with a bang: Bricco Delle Viole, the Vajra portfolio’s flagship and top-scoring wine. With vines dating back to 1931 (incredibly rare for Barolo), this wine has wonderful depth and personality, with an undeniably great future ahead of it. Next, we have two highly limited offerings, the first of which comes from arguably the hottest “cru” in Barolo: Ravera. This is a compelling wine, with an exotic character and sophistication that only Barolo can yield. Finally, we close with the Coste di Rose, an intensely aromatic, bright, and energetic wine. Coming from a high elevation parcel, this wine drinks like a time capsule from Old Barolo.
These are three exemplary wines from an exemplary producer. And if you think I may be biased as a longtime fan, don’t take just my word for it. Antonio Galloni sums it up simply: “The 2019 Barolos at Vajra are seriously impressive.”
