Bordeaux Sans Bidding

We are thrilled to have Bordeaux back for Monday – and with this kind of range across vintages, classifications and price points, Monday feels a whole lot better. As you know, I am a great proponent of Bordeaux, and it has been exciting to see some terrific consignments coming to us from UOVO storage customers.

We also realize we aren’t the only ones selling collectible wine. But we do think there is a distinct advantage to buying directly from Cellar Trading: access. Access to UOVO’s network of temperature-controlled wine storage facilities and to the collections housed within them. Nearly all of these wines are already in stock, and all are here in the U.S. at a UOVO location.

For collectors accustomed to the auction circuit, there is another advantage: simplicity. Our prices are clearly stated, with no bidding, no waiting for the hammer and no buyer’s premium added afterward. You know the cost upfront and can buy the wines you want directly, without competing lot by lot or wondering where the final price will land – and transferring to your storage is seamless.

At the top end, Cheval Blanc is particularly deep, with the 1998, 2009 and 2016 all earning 100 points from WA, while Haut-Brion is represented by three exceptional vintages, including the 100-point 2005 and 2015. Lafleur brings another level of rarity to the list, led by the 100-point 2000, and the 2016 Margaux offers a younger First Growth with a long future ahead. There is also 2001 Ausone, 2009 La Mission Haut-Brion and a 3L of the extraordinary 1998 Cheval Blanc for anyone looking for something especially memorable.

But some of my favorite buys in the offer sit much further down the price scale. The 2003 Calon-Ségur is $100, 2006 Léoville Barton is just $80, and 2012 Pape Clément – 97 points from WA – is also $80. And at $90, the 2014 Pontet-Canet is an easy bottle to put away for another few years or start thinking about opening sooner.

So take a little time with today’s list – I think you’ll find plenty worth considering, whether you’re buying to cellar or looking for something to enjoy sooner.
