The Monday Offer - 9/2/2024

Super Tuscans

Hello Collectors,

We considered forgoing our usual Monday offer due to the holiday, but just in the nick of time we scored an irresistible last-minute opportunity from our favorite supplier: Fattoria Le Pupille’s iconic Super Tuscan, Saffredi. The 2021 is the legendary Elisabetta Geppetti’s 34th bottling and vintage after vintage, we love the 60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 10% petit verdot blend for the same reasons: its relatively early approachability and versatility, but with the structure to age at least another and two decades. Highly rated by both Suckling (99) and Wine Advocate (97), at this price ($85!) it’s a must-have. The allocation right now is limited, so place your order before we sell out!

Another can’t miss is the 50th anniversary 2021 Tignanello (98 WA, 98 VM). One of the original supers, “Tig” has become a top collectible since its first vintage in 1971. It’s easy to forget how revolutionary Tig was in the early 1970’s and 80’s – a time when Italian wine was not known for its consistency and quality. Out of his frustration with the status quo and desire to highlight the potential of Tuscany, Piero Antinori pioneered an incredible and ground-breaking idea to use non-indigenous varietals (here, cabs sauv and franc). Certainly not without controversy amongst a backdrop of die-hard traditionalists and rigid Italian wine laws, Tig stays true to its Chianti roots with a healthy dose of Sangiovese in each vintage. The Tig is limited as well, and at this U.S. low price, it will sell out quickly.
