Italy’s Great Wines for Truffle Season
Buried Treasure
Hello Collectors,
Truffle season is upon us, and few things pair more beautifully with the earthy, aromatic richness of Alba’s white truffles than the great wines of Piedmont. From mature Nebbiolo to beautifully aged Sangiovese for the winter’s black truffle season, we’re digging into the cellar for some buried treasures from Italy’s most celebrated producers.
Piedmont leads the way with the extraordinary 1989 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto Riserva, alongside 2000, 2005, and 2009 Aldo Conterno Gran Bussia Riserva, 2010 Gaja Sperss, and 2012 Giacomo Conterno Francia. Tuscany offers treasures of its own, particularly for the winter’s black truffle season, including 2007 and 2010 Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino, 2010 Valdicava Madonna del Piano Riserva, and 2007 Fontodi Flaccianello, alongside celebrated vintages of Masseto (including the 100-point 2015), Sassicaia, Ornellaia, and Solaia.
Mature Italian wines remain one of my favorite categories to buy right now, particularly across such a wide range of price points. Finding bottles with 10, 15, or even 25 years of age at traditional retailers is increasingly difficult, and we’ve already done the aging for you in UOVO’s carefully controlled cellaring conditions. Every wine in this collection is in stock and ready to ship or transfer to your storage.
Truffle season is fleeting, but a well-stocked cellar means you’ll be ready whenever the occasion presents itself.
