Bodega Chacra

Hello Collectors,

Two decades ago, Piero Incisa della Rocchetta of Sassicaia fame began cultivating the old vineyards of what has now become one of the most admired wine projects in the world. He had an epic goal – not an Italian venture, but a much more far-flung vision: to make extraordinary biodynamic and organic chardonnay and pinot noir at nearly the end of the earth, the wilds of Argentinian Patagonia. The project, Bodega Chacra, has become one of the most esteemed South American wineries in just a few years.

With the legendary Jean-Marc Roulot advising the chardonnay, Piero has created masterful, Burgundian-inspired wines from ungrafted pinot vines dating to 1932, while maintaining tremendous respect for the unique terroir of Manqué in Rio Negro. The chardonnay has proven extraordinary as well, with broad acclaim from critics and collectors – not a surprise considering Roulot’s significant involvement.

We are thrilled to bring you the recent vintages of Chacra’s chardonnay and Cincuenta y Cinco pinot noir, both of which have gained storied reputations for purity, concentration, and elegance, and can stand side by side with the top chardonnays and pinots of the world while carving out their own identities in the canon of great wine. Critics agree – James Suckling awards the chardonnay 95 points and writes: “This is probably the finest answer to Puligny or Meursault in Argentina and it will be hard to pass by.” The highly regarded 2022 Cincuenta y Cinco pinot garnered 96 from Suckling and 95 from Vinous and is a steal at $47. We strongly recommend Chacra’s bottlings – these stunning wines deserve a place in your collection.
