The NV (2019) Extra-Brut Initial is classy, elegant and polished. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers and chalk all grace the palate. More than anything else, I am so impressed with the quality and texture of the mousse. This is a gorgeous Initial, one of the finest in recent memory. Dosage is 2.5 grams per liter. The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Initial shows unusual richness and depth for this bottling. This is an especially vinous, powerful Initial endowed with tons of fruit married to Selosse’s trademark textural finesse. The aromas and flavors are a touch forward, suggesting the wine is best enjoyed sooner rather than later.
