The other wine from Hall’s Artisan Collection is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain District. A simpler, backward, foreboding style of Cabernet Sauvignon, the mountain elevation gives the wine more structure, masculinity and tannin. The color is a dense purple, the wine less forthcoming and showy compared to the other cuvees from Kathryn Hall, but still impressive. Rich, full-bodied and built for 15-20 years of longevity. A deep, inky wine, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain boasts serious depth and density, with tons of dark, opulent fruit framed by equally compelling Howell Mountain minerality. The flavors remain beautifully precise and layered all the way through to the finish. This is a hugely promising Cabernet Sauvignon from Hall. There is so much to look forward to here.
